Race Relations

When I was a small kid I lived in a small village which is connected to the outside world by a boat service crossing the Perak River. There were a few cars used as taxis to ferry village folks to the nearest town. Most of the time, groceries were brought to the village by the few grocerers who in exchange for village agricultural products manage to ensure the village people have what it takes to survive another day. The village is a one race village.

Due to the history of the village which was involved in intense fighting with the communists pre-Merdeka Day, there were a lot of suspicious against one particular race. It was more for security reason than anything else, I would say. Of course when your father or relatives were injured or killed fighting of communists, who were made up of only one race, defending your country this kind of feeling is quite understandable. There was no other mean ofcommunication than transistor radio.

As I grew up I noticed a slight change in this perception. Slowly I began to see men and women of the other race cycling through the village to go to the other end. Lateron I discovered that these men and women were farmers tending to land plots rented from the village people. For some reasons, a few of the village people were close friends to those farmers. Perhaps they were already old to work on their farm lands hence allow the farmers to work while they collect some money from this venture. These farmers would just go about doing their business, working hard. They lived quite a distance away but they will be there early in the morning and always go back late evening just before sunset. Perhaps the last boat trip for the day. There was never any incident that can be related to racial problems.

That was the time my interest in knowing the other race strated to come to my mind. I tried to find a way to communicate with them but they were mostly reserved perhaps knowing full well the sentiments at the time. I even subscribed educational megazines which have spaces on learning their language. Anyway as a 10 year old, it was a tough interest!

Then there were programs for primary school students to create awareness and better understanding among the races in the district. I remeber when I was selected to attend a Scout Camping over a weekend in town. I befriended a scout from another school who happened to be of another race. I was trying to make him comfortable after he had a fall which resulted in cuts and bruises. We became friends until I left town for my secondary school education. I wonder what he is doing now. His father owned a shop in town and was doing quite well. My school mates and I visited his house which was at the back of his father's shop during one of the festive seasons. His shop is no longer where it used to be when I tried to look for him a god ten years later. There was another occasion when a group of us together with our teachers became the guests of 3 schools fullof the other race in the district. I was surprised with the way we were greated, treated and feted. I was really touched knowing that the students from these schools were also looking forward to hear about our village life, them being the town life.

At about the sametime my elder brother used to run a shop cum training school in town. Next to his shop was a textile shop run by the otherrace family. I used to go over to my brother's shop on Fridays to Sundays just to keep his company. During the day I used to play chess with one of the shopowner's son. He then invited me over to watch TV shows at night after he closed his shop and they had taken their dinner. Of course I would accept his invitation especially when there were good shows on TV!

So these were my experience in race relations at a very young age. That was in 1970's when the nation was just recovering from another milestone in its young life. It did not occur to me to be more careful than necessary, not just because they are not the same race as mine. Of course I saw more to this side when I spent five good years in a boarding school in a big town. Most of the teachers there were of the other races especially those teaching critical subjects. I never had any problem with them. In fact many of them I could consider as very good people - more than just good teachers! I am sure my outlook on life was shaped up by some of these events. They probably set the foundation for my principles. It was all trust and sincerity that mattered to me. In fact I must be thankful for this early education which would later on become a very good asset duing my days away from home studying overseas. My horizon was widened mixing with more people of diversed background in the classes and campus. I also managed to build better friendship with my fellow contrymen of different races.

At the end of the day, the law of the nature will rule supreme. You get what you give, in return. What goes around comes around. Finally, for every action there will be a reaction!

Let's work towards a better New Dawn!

Fast Food Outlet

I went to a Fast Food Outlet (FFO) the other night with my son. This FFO is supposed to be a well known brand including delivey services. The crowd was not big at the counter but as usual customers will always have to queue up to get a bite of whatever being served. Anyway, the service lane which wewere in was rather slow moving. I was not sure why but perhaps it was due to the undecided customers.

After a few minutes inside the FFO, I realised that the room was quite warm. I was wondering whether it was just me being hot blooded. Anyway, as time passed by I also noticed that the guy manning the counter was sweating with sweat beads all over his face. It must be terribly hot for them being close to the kitchen, Anyway when it was my turn to be served I just asked him why it was so warm. His answer shocked me as it was normal to them. How inconvenienced for them to work under such a condition. He replied that nothing they could do other than bear with the situation. I thought it was rather pathetic for the management of that FFO to provide that kind of working condition. While many would think that it was too bad for the crew, I think the customers ought to really think about the implication of those condition on the hygene of the food being served. I mean the fact that sweat beads could be seen was as good as the sweat beads could fall onto the food. For those being wrapped it might be ok. What about those being served exposed?

It is indeed unacceptable for the company to operate this way. If it is their policy not to take care of the staff welfare then I am afraid whatever profit they make is as good as obscene!

Spinning Ride

It has been a rather hectic and spinning ride the past few weeks. I did not even had a chance to post an entry. So many happenings around - personal, professiona, national and even international. It is like happening season how each is related to the other - almost contagous!

This was supposed to be a month full of self reflection and attainment. A month where the faithful would seize every opportunity to pile up the good deeds as part of investments for future. Yet the way things are unravelling I wonder whether many faithfuls would have the opportunity.

The Olympics has come and gone. There were a few memorable events - both goods and bads. I supposed the Phelps story is one of the highlights other than the lightning Bolt stamping his mark! On the other hand the dropped battons are the lowlights, if I may say so. However perhaps the most touching one was about the 200m runner who finished last of the last. It was indeed a real human story - other than those poor chinese who had to make way for the athletes glories! It is a fact nobody can deny - life is only fair to the haves and never be to the havenots no matter how one choose to see it!

Some people may get excited with a lot of anticipation but the irony is life is gloomier by the day!

Opportunities Abound!

On my recent trip back to my hometown I took a slightly different route than I usually did. It was rather pleasant, yet full of discoveries.

One thing I noticed is that there are so many opportunities to take this country to greater height! From developing new areas, preservation of natures gifts right through bringing about monumental changes to the people's life. It is all there for the taking. Only the brave and the adventurous would take full advantage of this. It is indeed a matter of time..

Time Flew

Indeed, it is now coming to almost a month since my last entry. It has been rather topsy turvy with many events taking place around the country. It was rather a fast turn for me. One week of a break from work routine just flew like a javeline thrown at the Beijing 2008 Olympics. With the new season of BPL kicking off last week it was rather hectic.

Nevertheless, thank God that I managed to find some solitude full of quality time for bonding with people around me. In particular with the elder boy who has been busy himself with his school commitments. The joy shown on his face was a triple joy for me to savour though he did not say as much. It was a good trip like to find 'Damai'. I wished I had more time there...

It was also the time for me to catch up with my old parents. They were rather surprised to see us all arrived unannounced at their door steps. It was another pleasure to me to be able to bring similar joys to them after the last trip. With works piling up, I am not sure when I could repeat these trips.

At the end of the day it was one of those rarest occasions when I had let go off almost everything and focus only on those dearest around me.

Thanks guys, I love u all!

Another Reflection

I was invited by someone to attend a charity dinner the other day. It was for a good cause, I thought. I was quite surprised to see the turn out. It was quite a good crowd with all the tables occupied with at least 70% if not more. I have been to other charity dinners before but nothing compared with this one. It was simple yet very touching, not withstanding the cause. The organiser did not invite any prominent entertainers as one would expect with fund raising dinner. Instead the entertainment was provided for by the very target that the fund is raised. It was a genuine request and of course it was a good opportunity to demonstrate how worthy the cause is.

The dinner culminated in a talk by Sheikh Yassir Fazaga, all the way from Orange County in the United States. What a talk it was. What attracted me most was the way the message was conveyed with full sincerity and the significance of the fundraising cause. Although the topic was 'Self Imaging' below are some of the points worth pondering:

1. In spreading the message of Islam, the task is not in converting people but rather conveying the message
2. Muslims should not live in self pity
3. Do not worry about what others say about or how others see you but rather what you say and how you see yourself
4. Self Imaging is not about showing off but rather portraying the innerside outward
5. The significance of caring for the orphans as the Prophet PBUH himself was an orphan

"Seest thou one, who denies the Judgment (to come)? Then such is the (man) who repulses the orphan (withharshness) And encourages not the feeding of the indigent. So woe to the worshippers who are neglectful of their Prayers Those who (want but) to be seen (of men) But refuse (to supply) (even) neighbourly needs." Al Ma'un

The cause for the charity was for the HOME of HOPE (Rumah Harapan) Al-Khadeem.

The Skin Cinema

I was taking a break after reading The Innocent Man. It takes me some time to really understand how some people are so vulgar and heartless. People who look nice and friendly on the surface but full of hatred, vengeance and revengeful deep down, below the skin. This is especially sad considering those people are those who are supposed to be just, fair and reasonable full of compassion towards another human being within the perimeter of the law. These people wear the uniforms and the robes! It surely is a good comparison with the happenings around us now.

Anyway, while on the prowl high above the sky I came to a large field with lots of people. As I approach the site, it was obvious that the people were busy watching some kind of movie on a huge screeen. It is even bigger than the I-Max Cinema that I have been to. Looks like most people were having lots of fun watching the screen. There were a few who looked confused with the story line. Anyway, I approached one of them to get the story.

It went like this. It is a story set in BL country. The country has been in existence for about half a century. Although there have been hiccups associated with a new nation growing up, none of the citizen were prepared for what happened a few months ago. The country is known as practicing a parliamentary democracy though the meaning of democracy in this country was limited to the fact that a general election is held every four to five years, in accordance to the constitution. All these years there was only one group who gets to govern the country. Almost half of the fifty year period was led by a prime minister known now as TDM. He did bring a lot of physical development to the country but at the expense of cultural and human right values. When he left the scene a few years ago he handed over thehelm of the country to a nice guy, AAB. After some hesitation AAB appointed NR as his deputy. During TDM's administration he got rid a few of his political enemies. The most prominent one was his annointed successor AI who was sacked and jailed for supposedly abuse of power and sodomy. AI spent a good six years in prison and was released after AAB took over when the highest court in the country overturned his earlier conviction.

AI then spent a good period overseas to recuperate and also to reestablish lost contacts with his acquaintances and friends. When he came back he managed to put the opposition groups together to face what was top be another general election, which was held in the first quarter of this year. Due to his time in prison he was barred from any political office until about a month after the GE. His group use every possible issue to gain the support from the masses who were faced with unhappiness due to the rising cost of living, corruptions and abuse of power by the pwoers that be. The citizen of BL were simply fed up and wanted a change. So to the surprise of everyone, AAB lost grip of 4 states to the AI group. The BN government also lost the two third majority in parliament, losing ministers, deputy ministers and head of smaller political parties along the way. The political and administration landscape of the country has been changed. Then the real politics began.

AAB faced a lot of pressure from his own party U to resign. Most wanted him to hand over to NR although there are others who wanted to contest. TDM was furious and continued his attacks on AAB. He managed to get a few of his half past seven supporters to pile up the pressures. He was also lost and did not know what is the best for his beloved U. First he wanted NR to take over then he said NR is upto no good having no principle. Finally he and a few of his gang left U, the party he formed and sulking the fact that many U members just ignored him.

AI on the other hand worked over time to get some of the BN members to cross over so that he could form a new government like in the four states they captured. They formed a loose coalition known as PR. The game is now played for a very high stakes. The manouvering was in earnest. AAB can't afford to lose the government and his face. NR desparately wanted to prevent AI from taking over knowing that AI would probably open a lot of cabinets and chests with lots of skeleton. He simply could not allow it. So, the show gets started.

1. AI filed a report to ACA against MH, the IGP and GP, the AG for their supposed actions many years ago. The guys in ACA started the investigation right away.
2. NR was faced with allegations on being involved with a pretty lady from M land who was killed and blown up. Two of his special force and his close associate/advisor are on trial for the complicity with the murder.
3. NR's involvement was documented first by a certain RP for which he was detained and remanded for a few days. RP said he has all the evidences and wants to reveal everything in the court. This was later affirmed by a PI who worked for NR's advisor early on.
4. The situation is rather hot and could be explosive.
5. Then out of sudden a guy who work with AI made a police report that he was sodomised by AI. This guy was later found to have good access to NR - first he went to seek support for a scholarship after he failed to complete his studies. Then NR said he met with the guy at his home a few days before the sodomy took place because the guy was traumatised and need counselling session from him.
6. The SIL joined in and claimed that AI planned the whole thing to get symphaty for his cause.
7. Then AI was supposed to go to the police station to get his statement recorded as part of the sodomy investigation. He did not turn up because he was served with a court order not to be anywhere near 5 km from the parliament house. Apparently his house is within that 5 km radius. So he was technically under house arrest. He confirmed that he will go at an agreed time on the next available time which was two days later. In between AI went on to debate a minister ASC on a topic relevant to the masses. He was a clear winner to most people. He also went to ACA to have his statement recorded as part of investigation into his earlier report on MH and GP. On the way back he was ambushed by balaclava clad policemen and arrested.
8. In the meantime a side show was inserted with the head of the Immigration arrested for corruption. But many people do not believe the reason. To most people this has everything to do with the missing record of the lady NR was supposed to have liaison with. This cannot be dismissed all together with the replacement being one of the guys from defence ministry which is under NR. People are also wondering why there was no investigation into this missing record and missing explosive used in the crime against the lady.
9. At the end of this episode of the movie show, AI was still going around the country telling people he did not do that terrible act and it was all part of a conspiracy to prevent him from taking over the government.

It is indeed very interesting to see the continuation of this movie - Perhaps in Part 2.

In the mean time I will take another break before I start reading the next book, Double Jeopardy by William Bernhadt.

Oh, in case people are wondering, I list below the full description of the abbreviation used in the Skin Movie above:
TDM - That Dickhead Man
BL - Bull Land

PR - People Renaissance
M - Mother

The Innocent Man - Closure

I finally completed reading the book. It was like reading a history book. It can get boring with the details on the actual facts. But Grisham did a good job in balancing the facts and the creativity. You would not relise the dividing line. It was a justice done to all Grisham's efforts in coming up with the book. Not less than 18 months of them.

It was indeed surprising how the two guys here were sent to the death row without having anything to do with the crime. Even seasoned lawyer like Grisham was shocked with his discoveries while researching for the book. I can't help but admire those people who fought hard to ensure that justice was finally accorded to the two guys. In fact there have been many similar cases of the Innocents were convicted wrongly. Some we freed while others were not so lucky.

It was a reflection of the justice system no matter where it is on this earth. As Grisham stated in the Author's note, "Wrongful convictions occur every month....and the reasons are all varied and all the same - bad police work, junk science, faulty eyewitness identifications, bad defense lawyers, lazy prosecutors, arrogant prosecutors". In the case of Ron Williamson, the price he had to pay for twelve years of wasted life was very heavy. He suffered and never really recovered. He finally succumb to cancer five years after getting his freedom from the death row. It was rather facinating in spite of his deeds he was full of regrets for the hardship he caused others especially his parents and family. As if his sufferings were to wash and cleanse his soul for the ultimate journey. He was a real example for those entrusted with responsibility to discharge it in the most fair and accountable manner. Nobody should purposely cause the misery unto others.

As a learning process, I highly recommend the book!

The Innocent Man - Part 2

When I first started reading the book, I was a little bit aprehensive on how Grisham was going to prtray a real life story into his trade mark novel. It was indeed very slow moving at first but it became like a fiction thriller as you progress with the chapters. What amazed me was the way Grisham handled the various scenarios in real life into a very smooth transition of chapters in the book. You would not really feel that you were reading a real life story. Such a writing skill!

Anyway, it was also disturbing to see the way things were unfolding at the litlle town of ADA. It was anything but fairness, reasonableness and compassion. It was indeed a situation when no one should be subjected to. But then again, it was no different to those happening at many other places in the world, this country included. It is a case when people act at their own whim and fancy for the sake of getting things done.

It is a sad world indeed when the halpless was continuously ignored and abused. When a human being is treated worst than animal. When a person moving to a danger being pushed further and closer to the danger! What kind of human would do such a thing, one wonders! It is a sad state of any society which would allow this; when people close their eyes or look at the other directions. It was red herring in full action. At the end of the day the real victim did not get the justice he or she really deserved!

What Fed Up?

It was rather sickening to read about a few people who think they are so important in other people's life, saying they are getting fed up with the current political situation in this country now. They wanted to go on strike! They do not want to blog anymore on the two hottest issues being played out now. They wanted to shutdown on people who talk about these two issues. All this while they were supposed to provide an alternative views and now they are complaining! Go to hell! By all means go on strike, shut down others views and go and kick a cat if that makes you guys happy. So what? Who ae you to dictate other peoples life?

Anyway, these people say they are fed up with the politicians actions. Did they ever think of those people affected by the allegations? Their families, friends and relatives? For the past ten years I do not think these jokers can get anywhere near to understand what these 'victims' went though. In the excitement to getting fed up, they forgot the real issue here. The issue of credibility. Why only question one side not both sides? Why the gun is only trained on one target not both? I am sure there are people who wanted this kind of situation to happen i.e. to divert the real issue.

It is a mess indeed but did any of these fed up guys ever ask the question, who started it all?

Big Picture's Puzzle

The Year of the Rat has really been nothing short of excitement! It was rather fitting if one were to look at the current happenings and compare with the famous story of 'Who Moved My Cheese'. It so happened that a pair of rats was also the main protagonist of the story. It demonstrated how the rats were more prepared to face the consequence of losing their cheese as compared to the two guys! It was like David vs Golliath thing.

Anyway, the big picture is still blurr at this stage. Although I can probably envisage the Big Picture may consist of four major pieces in the puzzle frame. The first piece was the events leading to the March 8 GE. The second piece was more related to the March 8 night and the events that followed. The third piece of the puzzle is comparable to the first 100 days period of the new climate. All these pieces are generally in place. However the question remains on the fouirth and last piece of the puzzle. Will it give a picture of old or new climate? Will it bring hope or despair to the people? Will it become a reality or remain illusionary? We are nowhere near the final draft.

However it woulod be interesting to note that the last pice of the puzzle, although it holds key to the Big Picture is actually the canvass for those events created in the other 3 pieces. If one cares to look closely a few clues have been unravelled along the way. Nothing seemed to be what was apparent on face value. The intrigues are in fact sub plots of a big drama. Nobody dares to guess which way it will end. One thing is certain, nevertheless, it is war time. It is the Winner takes All stage. No turning back. Whoever comes out second best will probably bleed until the last drop of the blood. What a pity it would be if truth does not prevail!

The funny part is the key to the final piece of the puzzle may not be found anywhere in this country. Rather it could be at a far away town at the centre of a continent. Worst still a dead woman could have the final say. At the end of the day it all boils down to lust translated into a three letter word. In this case it is SEX. We shall wait for further clues....

The Insider

It was a movie I came across while browsing for the latest news on the satellite channels. It was based on a true story with addition for dramatic effect. It is basically a story of a Head of Research unit of a Big Corporation in the US who was sacked for standing up. He did not want to compromise his belief and principle which he thought was crucial to human health and life. He went through hell! Even his wife left him for not being able to cope and support him.

Of course he found a person who also shared the same principle on life. The principle on integrity, accountability and responsibility. These people were prepared to go against the tide and gave away everything. Indeed they finally triumphed in their life although it was not easy. I am sure they were satisfied with the outcome of their battle for the cause that they believed in in spite of the sacrifices they had to make.

It was almost a prophetic coincidence for the show to be aired today, in the light of the most recent events in this country. The extent of challenges and tribulations people who hold onto noble principles are being unravelled for all to see. To most people it may be hard to swallow but to these selected few, it is their destiny to serve the humanity no matter the price they have to pay. I wonder what is in their heart and soul that sets them apart from the ordinary and mere mortal.

BTW, I thought Russell Crowe and Al Pacino did very well in the film version of the real Insider!

100 Days of Ding Dong

When the sun rose on 9th March 2008, it was like a new dawn with rays of hope. Indeed some hopes are higher than others but still many were hoping for better life. This kind of hope is still there, nevertheless. However the earlier optimism is slowly diminishing withthe kind of ding dong and flip flop being shown. I am talking about the 4 PR governed states. Yes it was not easy to come and occupies the vacant sits with the little experience in governing. It was a very steep learning curve if success were to be gained over nights... This is quite understandable. However the basic element of being together among the PR components that is communicating with each other is obviously not resolved. You still get an excited member easily pronounced about certain things without proper communication internally. Then the oethers had to back pedalled. Then you also have a top guy happily says things on top of his head giving an impression that every action/decision he makes should be told to the Rakyat. He is then seen like another flip flop legend. The question is why can a proper mechanism be put in place to avoid opening your backside to be whacked. This is knowing that there are so many out there who want to see the backside whacked left, right and centre.

Unless the lessons are learned, and learned fast, weakenesses identified and strengthened, gaps closed and rectified, life will be tougher for the next whatever remaining of the 363 x 5 days term to the next election! It is sad that with all the hopes, some PR government seems to fall in the same trap befallen the previous BN governments. While the intention may be good or all done in good faith, the art of governing is far from satisfactory. But then again that is the challenge that we ought to face and overcome. Here hoping that things will only get better!

Personal v Professional

It was rather sad these days to see many people in the 'professional' line could not differentiate between personal interest and professional interest. Most think that since they work in certain professions, they thought they are professionals realising very little the true meaning of professionalism. How often these days one hears about top management of an organisation or a corporate body making decision based on other than professionalism. In trying to justify their personal actions they would resort to all sorts of dirty tricks at their disposal without really feeling any remorse. These people become an arrogant lot. They thought the trust and responsibility given to them is a licence to do anything they like and they wish without being accountable. As a result those unfortunate people who were at the wrong place at the wrong time would suffer.

Why can't people be honest and do the right thing professionally? Is it because of incompetence, lack of knowledge or fear of own weaknesses? Or is it the fear of own shadow? But then again, if one is above board and beyond reproach what is there to be fear of the shadow? Perhaps the answer lies somewhere in between. Go and figure it out!

Parental Visit

The previous weekend was a return trip home with the kids. It was a family occasion celebrating one of the third generation getting hitched. I managed to take time off to go back home although the occasion was somewhere else. It was a time to renew family ties with relatives who have not crossed our paths for some time. After a good rest, it was time to return to the city. The trip was generally exciting although rather tiring driving over 600km in a day. It was worth it, nonetheless to see mum and dad....

Good Bye, My Friend!

It was a normal day until I received a shocking news about my friend R who has passed on to meet with his Creator. I was stunned and shocked. I have not seen him for a while since he came a calling months back. However, just a few days ago I just thought about him. Wondering what he was doing, remembering those days when we could meet up with a phone call. However since he became immobile, these moments were no longer there. I ended up the thot with a prayer that he gets well and telling myself that I would see him soon. Alas! It was not to be. Apparently he left for a minor priligrimage a week ago and would be back next week. It was a journey he was thinking for quite a while and he was very determined to go on that journey. It seemed to be his final journey on this earth. A journey that would leave only memories behind. He was well liked by everbody I know for he was kind hearted who never failed a friend. I knew for a fact that he put his friends even before his family at times. But the main thing is he was also loved by his creator for his kindness. I guess it was this kindness that brought him to his Creator in the Holy Land. He could not be closer to the good before he was called on. My friend, you will be remembered in more ways than one. May your soul be blessed and showered with the best as what you showered those around you. May you rest in the company of the best people. Amen!

The Innocent Man - Part 1

In the town of Ada, Oklahoma, Ron Williamson was going to be the next Mickey Mantle. But on his way to the Big Leagues, Ron stumbled, his dreams broken by drinking, drugs, and women. Then, on a winter night on 1982, not far from Ron's home, a young cocktail waitress named Debra Sue Carter was savagely murdered. The investigation led nowhere. Until, on the filmsiest evidence, it led to Ron Williamson. The washed up small-town hero was charged, tried and sentenced to death - in a trial littered with lying witnesses and tainted evidence that would shatter a man's already broken life ... and let a true killer go free.

.......It is a book that will terrify anyone who believes in the presumption of innocence - a book no American can afford to miss.

Boston Legal

If you are keen on legal drama but on the lighter side, this tv series is a good one to consider. It has all the ingredients of American Way of life. I mean we all know how litigatious the Americans are. They just find anything to start a litigation or civil suits. So a legal firm becomes the focus, in this case, it is Crane, Poole and Smitch. The pratagonist is Denny Crane, one of the partners. Poole is rather quite while Shirley Smitch is the moderator bringing the feminine influence. Denny's close friend is Alan Shore, a real character. In most of the series Alan Shore is considered the brain behind the cases especially those in the court room drama. The original supporting cast included Brad who ended up marrying Denise, Clarence who becomes Clarice after hours, Jimmy the eccentric and a few others from time to time.

Then you have a group of judges who can be unique in each own way. Throw in a few baddies to be defended by the team from CPS together with a few arrogant DAs then you really have some entertaining shows.

What I like most about the show is that issues raised in each episode are very relevant to day to day life of an ordinary american citizen. As a result the legal arguments put forth by each side are almost surreal. For me it is almost like a revision of chapters from legal text. It is always inspiring and a good way to motivate and get refreshed especially when you see how these lawyers work in a professional way most of the time but struggle to escape from emotional attachment when the subject matter is closed to their hearts. Of course there were a few episodes which were rather memorable made possible by the good acting overall.

The chemistry between Denny Crane an Alan Shore could not have been better. For good measure each episodes ends with these two main characters sitting on Denny Crane's office balcony with a glass of champagne in one hand while a good cigar in another reflecting on the day gone by! It is indeed a very good series which has run for four seasosns. One really has to keep track to follow the case since it is not readily available on local channels....
